KIDAPAWAN CITY, 11 Feb 2021 - A Preliminary Meeting on the establishment of the province's Shared Service Facility took place yesterday, February 11, at the Hof Mansion Inn, Kidapawan City.
A project of the Provincial Government of Cotabato (PGCot), through Governor Nancy A. Catamco, the facility aims to assist Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) who cannot afford to construct their own facility based on the standards of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Provincial Director Michael Mayo of the DOST XII- North Cotabato Office was in attendance at the said meeting wherein the office has been requested to assist in the said endeavor.
With the facility intended for food processing, PD Mayo recommended the inclusion of a Toll Packaging and Labeling Center with a product testing laboratory. He then elaborated on the importance of safe packaging as well as right and appropriate labels to ensure the safety, quality, and marketability of local products.
Ms. Margian Warner from the Office of the Governor proposed March 22 of this year for benchmarking activity on product packaging and labeling with DOST.
PD Mayo assured that DOST XII can assist in Laboratory Testing and Analyses as well as in the finalization of Plant Layout, aside from packaging and labeling.
DOST XII Regional Director Engr. Sammy Malawan earlier expressed his support of the province's advocacy on 'Gawang North Cotabato.'
Upon hearing the report from PD Mayo, RD Malawan affirms that DOST XII will also help in capacitating human resources, particularly on Food Safety, current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Energy Audit, among other relevant technical interventions.
Presentation of the architectural design of the proposed two-storey building of the said facility was also done during the meeting. The building has a project cost of 50 million, which the PGCot already incorporated in its Annual Budget for CY 2021.
