KIDAPAWAN CITY, 05 February 2021 – A total of 1,197 Grade 12 students in North Cotabato applied for the DOST Undergraduate Scholarships for AY 2021-2022.

 

As confirmed with the DOST XII Scholarship Unit under Mr. Wahid Lucas, AO V, Region 12 in general has received more than 4,500 applications for the said academic year.

 

"With sustained promotion and coordination among secondary schools, DOST XII exceeded the set target of applicants for the period in spite of the persistent pandemic", said Regional Director Engr. Sammy Malawan.

 

A team of three from the DOST-Cotabato Provincial Office namely Mr. Nazeef Hadjinor, Ms. Claire Venturado and Mr. Reynel Revilla shed light today on the agency's scholarships during Cong. Caoagdan's 'Dagayday sa Serbisyo ug Kalambuan' airtime at DXKF Radyo Tirada 102.3Mhz.

 

The S&T Undergraduate Scholarships has two categories: 1) Republic Act (RA) 7687 for brilliant and deserving freshmen whose families' socio-economic status does not exceed the set values of certain indicators. 2) Merit Scholarship for deserving students but whose families' socio-economic status exceed the set cut-off values.

 

For student-applicants to avail the scholarship, they must pass an examination which shall be conducted within the first semester of the year.

 

Qualifiers then must pursue 4-5 Bachelor of Science degree in priority fields such as basic sciences, science & mathematics teaching, engineering as well as other applied sciences.

DOST Scholars enjoy monthly living allowance of P7,000.oo along with provision of tuition and school fees, book and thesis allowances, among others.

 

Currently, DOST XII assists and monitors a total of 338 scholars regionwide, 78 of which are studying at the University of Southern Mindanao (USM).
