With the purpose of communicating the recent updates on DOST XII projects and activities, the Department of Science and Technology Region XII (DOST XII) Regional Director Engr. Sammy P. Malawan CESE through North Cotabato Provincial Director Michael T. Mayo and SarGen Provincial Director For. Nabil Hadji Yassin in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency XII conducted a Kapihan/Pressconference at SM Mall of Gensan yesterday, March 31, 2022.
PD Michael T. Mayo gave updates regarding the recent partnership of DOST and SM Prime Holdings Inc., which aims to address environmental concerns and ultimately advocating for environmental sustainability and resilience, as well as promoting best practices to encourage other stakeholders and the Filipino people as a whole with various activities and programs laid throughout the year and DOST’s partnership with the Department of Education XII and Commission on Election XII for the 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟐 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 Region. “The program aims to ensure the smooth conduct of the Automated Election System for the upcoming 2022 National and Local Elections.” He said.
The program, which was mandated by Republic Act No. 9369 (RA No. 9369), or the Amended Automated Election Law, which took effect in January 2007, is also aimed at increasing public trust in election results by utilizing automated technology for voting, counting, canvassing, transmission, consolidation, and recounting of votes.
On the other hand, PD For. Nabil Hadji Yassin tackled the programs of DOST XII and Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (DOST-SETUP) Projects which aims to help business owners and inventors of the Region. Ms. Remedios Flamiano, owner of Greenlands Agritech Ventures and Ms. Arlyn Mandas owner of Saxonylyn Scientific Fishfarming, both cooperators of the SET UP Project attended the Kapihan and gave testaments on how DOST helped their businesses.
“DOST really helped me in building our business and they are always ready to lend a hand.”, Ms. Flamiano said. Ms. Mandas also added “Because of DOST, we were able to upgrade our technology and we were also able to give more jobs in our community.”
The Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (DOST-SETUP) of the Department of Science and Technology is a national strategy encouraging and assisting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to adopt technological innovations to improve their products, services, operations, and productivity and competitiveness.
