KORONADAL CITY – The Department of Science and Technology XII (DOST XII) in response to Bayanihan Bakunahan Ligtas Lakas Buong Pilipinas COVID-19 National Vaccination Days (NVD) November 29, 30 and December 1 2021 together with partner agencies- the Department of Budget and Management XII, Department of Social Welfare and Development XII, Department of Health XII, Commission on Higher Education XII, Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development XII and Department of Interior and Local Government XII under the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (RIATF-IED) formed a Vaccination Immersion Team to visit the top 3 lowest vaccinated barangays in South Cotabato to monitor the vaccination process, and provide assistance.
Apart from monitoring and assessing NVD implementation and providing necessary observations and feedback to concerned LGU officials, the team led by regional directors and representatives of heads of offices also went the extra mile to conduct a "recoreda" or information drive per barangay inform and raise public awareness of the ongoing nationwide vaccination activity as well as communicate to them the importance of vaccination.
The team began the three-day immersion by visiting the LGU Lake Sebu vaccination sites. Poor input and a lack of transportation were identified as reasons for the municipality's low immunization rate, as it is a municipality with many undeveloped roads and rocky terrain. The immersion team then rectified the situation by offering car lifts to individuals coming to the vaccination area while also conducting Barangay Information Drives to provide correct and accurate immunization information. The DOST team, which was led by Regional Director Engr. Sammy P. Malawan paid a visit to Brgy. Tasiman, Brgy. Takunel and Brgy. Bacdulong, Lake Sebu vaccination sites.
For Day 2 of the Vaccination Immersion, the team went to T’boli South Cotabato to visit the vaccination sites of Brgy. New Dumangas, Brgy. Laconon and Brgy. Salacafe where DBM Regional Director Akmad Usman recognized the efforts of the LGU for going above and beyond to provide assistance to the Department of Health and RIATF-IED team.
LGU Surallah was the last destination for the 3-day NVD stint with separate vaccination sites for persons with comorbidity- SOCSKARGEN Provincial Hospital, 12-17year old at Brgy. Dajay and adults at Brgy. Centrala, South Cotabato.
