The said meeting aims to discuss the areas of support and assistance that the office of the Congresswoman may extend for the establishment of the DOST MIRDC’s Metals and Engineering Innovation Center in Mindanao State University – Gensan Campus.
RD Malawan provided an overview of the MEIC, including its significance, impact, and competitive advantage in the metals industry. Similarly, Engr. Jeremy Aguinea, National Executive Vice President of Metals Industries Association of the Philippines (MIAP) and 2020 SETUP Cooperator, discussed the status and demand for metals and engineering products and services in the region. Cong. Bañas-Nograles appreciated the efforts of both the public and private sectors in advancing metals and engineering in SOCSSKSARGEN. She is determined to support and help for the success of establishing the region’s 1st Innovation Center.
The MEIC is specially developed to meet the regional metalworking demands, and this will be realized through a collaboration between the Department of Science and Technology-Metals Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC) and the academe.
The MEIC will be outfitted with fabrication equipment. This will be incorporated into the partner academic institutions' regular engineering and engineering-related curricula. This will not only house equipment and technology, but will also serve as a center for research and development activities, and a hub where metalworking expertise will be optimized and shared to encourage continuous innovation in the region.
