“We will submit proposals to DOST”, Atty. Russel Abonado, Mayor of M’lang said while Provincial Director Michael Mayo briefly elaborated on DOST XII programs, projects, activities (PPAs), and services under the stewardship of OIC-RD Engr. Sammy P. Malawan, CESE.
PD Mayo paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Abonado on Friday, 23 October 2020, before proceeding with the team to conduct Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) to two (2) potential DOST XII beneficiaries in the said municipality.
Some of DOST XII endeavors that PD Mayo talked about include technologies for transfer and commercialization like the DOST FNRI-developed Tubig Talino, Enhanced Nutribun (E-Nutribun), and other nutritious snack products comprising brown rice, veggies such as squash and saluyot, among others.
Mayor Abonado delegated at once Dr. Mary Ann Cortado of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) to assist M’lang constituents to come up with project proposals for submission to DOST XII, giving emphasis to livelihood plans of M’lang Persons with Disability (PWD) Association.
After the conduct of TNA to the PWD Association of M’lang, part of the initial recommendations of PD Mayo for their livelihood project includes the establishment of Bakeshoppe and Water-Refilling Station, funding of which DOST XII may support thru its GIA and with the infusion of DOST FNRI-developed technologies as earlier mentioned.
The following were the DOST XII PPAs, which PD Mayo also brought up with Mayor Abonado: DOST-Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP); Innovation for Filipinos Working Distantly from the Philippines (iFWD PH); RxBox ; Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosk Stations (STARBOOKS).
PD Mayo apprised the good Mayor as well of updates on the Provincial Government’s possible adoption of the DOST MIRDC- Hybrid Electric Road Train (HERT). Delighted, Mayor Abonado expressed his support for the said endeavor.
