Complete sets of equipment worth 1M were turned-over by DOST XII to the PWD of M’lang Association for the latter’s enterprise technology upgrading projects.

The association has 1,318 active members- all are duly registered Persons with Disability (PWDs) per updated records from Mlang LGU- PWD Affairs Office (PDAO).

The formal turn-over took place yesterday, 17 February 2022 at the PWD Canteen/ Bakery in Poblacion M’lang, North Cotabato where all equipment for the projects: Upgrading of Bakery; Establishment of Water-refilling Station to adopt DOST-FNRI Tubig-Talino; and, Calamansi Juice Processing are installed and in operation.

DOST XII Regional Director Sammy Malawan fluently expressed in Ilonggo (dialect of almost all association members) that the agency is always open to support PWDs become empowered to take on bigger responsibilities for their social enterprises to grow through science, technology and innovation.

Congressman Jose Tejada, 3rd District Representative encouraged the members to take good care of the equipment from DOST XII grant and further strive to grow their business. With high hopes he added that with the members’ determination, time will come that they might be the one giving donations instead of just being the recipients.

Valued partners in the realization of this endeavor who also graced the activity were Ms. Exaltation Velarde, representing Mayor Russel Abonado; MSWD Officer Ms. Bella Jane Solis; and, Dr. Mary Ann Cortado, Mlang PESO Officer.

Mr. Hermilo Paren, the Association President conveyed his appreciation and expressed their collective commitment to value the blessings bestowed to them and make use of the DOST XII assistance to provide jobs to fellow PWDs and help them earn income.

DOST XII also provided members-concerned training-seminar on food safety and facilitated their participation to appropriate webinars offered by relevant Research and Development Institutes (RDIs) and councils of DOST.

According to S&T Provincial Director Michael Mayo, consultancy services like the DOST-MPEX, energy audit, cleaner production technology, among others; packaging and labeling; laboratory tests and analyses will also be provided to them.
