After successfully getting through review and technical evaluation early this year, two (2) Micro Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (MSMEs) in Cotabato Province were approved to avail the DOST-Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).
Signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between DOST XII Regional Director Sammy Malawan and the two (2) proponents took place at the DOST XII Regional Office in Koronadal City on 27 January 2022.
An orientation on the provisions of MOA was also conducted wherein RD Malawan expressed his high hopes towards commitment of every proponent for the successful implementation of the program in spite of the current pandemic.
Proposal-driven, SETUP is DOST’s technology transfer and commercialization program designed to assist MSMEs in adopting technological innovations to improve their products, services, operations and boost their productivity and competitiveness.
Approved projects with corresponding name of firm and location granted the Innovation Fund (iFund) under the DOST-SETUP are the following: (1) “Technology Upgrading on Calamansi Juice Processing Facility” of the TSM Food Products in Kidapawan City amounting PhP2,177,432.00 ; (2) “Deployment of the Vertical Helophyte Filter Systems at Kian Tek Rubber Factory Corporation” located at Malasila, Makilala amounting PhP1,706,372.
SETUP is DOST’s complete package of assistance aimed at addressing technical problems and improve productivity and efficiency thru application of new and appropriate technologies and processes; provision of trainings and human resource development; advisory and consultancy services; packaging and labeling; engineering, layout and plant design services; equipment design, specifications and acquisition; and product standards and testing.
Priority sectors include Food Processing; Health and Wellness; Metals and Engineering; Aquamarine, Agriculture and Horticulture; Furniture and Fixtures; Gifts, Decors and Handicraft (GDH); Energy and Environment as well as ICT: Software, Animations, Electronics/ Microelectronics.
“We are encouraging more MSMEs in North Cotabato to avail of DOST XII interventions”, Provincial Director Michael Mayo said. He added that an MSME must be a registered business under Philippine Laws for at least three (3) years already and needing S&T interventions to qualify for the SETUP.
