As part of the catalytic role of technology training, transfer and commercialization, the Department of Science and Technology XII through PSTO South Cotabato conducted a Technology Training and Demonstration on Guyabano Processing for officers and employees of the FAREAST Agricultural Seeds Multipurpose Cooperative (FARCO MPC) on March 27, 2021 at TFI Compound, Bro. 2 Road, Barangay Sto. Nino, Koronadal City.
The technology intervention undertaken was focused on the production of Guyabano Puree, Concentrate and Juices lectured and demonstrated by Ms. Pia S. Uka, DOST XII’s Training Coordinator and the PSTO Team. This had inculcated S&T information, upgraded production capability, and disseminated matured technologies to the participants about the manufacturing process of the mentioned guyabano products.
In his opening address, Director Engr. Mahdali R. Alonto, PSTD South Cotabato have mentioned some health benefits of Guyabano Fruit, Leaves, Barks and Roots and the current development of DOST for Guyabano, the ideal medicinal fruit in the country.
Guyabano also known as soursoap is a tropical fruit abundant in the country. It is a sweet heart-shaped fruit, famous for its soft-pulpy white flesh and rich in vitamins and minerals. At present, DOST has the technology to process Guyabano into a standardized, guaranteed safe and natural food supplement capsules and Guyabano Teas
With this capability enhancement training, Edwin C. Kahulugan, FAR MPC’s General Manager and the cooperative members had developed new potential products for their enterprise.
