Representatives from partner agencies for the installation of Hydraulic Ram Pump in Puti Bato convened in a MOA signing held at barangay Midtungok recently that sought to provide water supply that is safe and waterborne disease-free for the community.
The signing of Memorandum of Agreement between the concerned government agencies and Indigenous People of Midtungok was participated personally by the 7th Infantry (TAPAT) Battalion headed by Lieutenant Colonel Romel S. Valencia INF (GSC) PA, OIC Chief-TSD/Supervising SRS Engr. Shalinah S. Mercado, Provincial Director of PSTO Sultan Kudarat Ms. Zenaida D. Guiano, Engr. Tamano S. Sacar, SRS II, other DOST XII staff, representative from LGU of SNA, Barangay Chairman Mamerto Parong, sitio leader of Tupi Bato, and other partner stakeholders.
The realization of this water project was a product of a courtesy visit of LTC Romel S. Valencia INF (GSC) PA to DOST XII Regional Director Engr. Sammy P. Malawan, CESE, facilitated by Jorge Estember, Chief of Staff of 2nd District of South Cotabato Congressman Ferdinand Hernandez requesting a hydraulic ram pump for Tupi Bato.
In a recently concluded MOA signing, LTC Romel S. Valencia commended DOST XII including other government line agencies for the realization of the potable water station project and pledged to extend their full support to the project.
“The potable water we are dreaming of has finally came. Rest assured that the 7IB especially the Bravo Company is always here to support you.” LTC Valencia said.
The project is a Community Empowerment through Science and Technology CEST Program under its Water and Sanitation key entry point. It is a DOST XII’s continuous efforts in bringing S&T services to the grassroots. The facility is significantly helpful tool to end the decades-old struggle of the 60 % Dulangan-Manobo residents in accessing potable water and lessens somehow the death of residents due to waterborne disease.
“As far I remember, we have been helpless and struggling for potable water since the creation of this barangay until now. Thank you DOST XII for providing this Ram Pump for us.” Chairman Parong stressed out.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Office of Sultan Kudarat Governor Datu Suharto “Teng” Mangudadatu provided a personnel and dump trucks for the loading and hauling of the construction materials all the way to barangay Midtungok which was assisted and secured by the Bravo Company of 7th Infantry (TAPAT) Battalion.
The said CEST Water and Sanitation project is in response to the government's National Program on Poverty Alleviation. Expectedly, 50 households and the increasing population of Dulangan-Manobo dominated barangay Midtungok suffering for potable water will benefit from the water project of DOST XII.
