DOST 12 has the looked upon specialists for Halal. Just recently one (1) of its employees in the name of Samerah B. Macabalang-Datudacula has finished her second Master’s Degree, Master of Science in Biology, and has completed the writing of her thesis entitled “Molecular Detection of Porcine DNA in Selected Processed Meat Products with Halal Logo sold in General Santos City.” This is the first, if not the only, Halal specialist in the Philippines that was able to write a Graduate thesis on Halal for use in policy and decision-making.
The completion of her study under the Human Resource and Development Program of the Department of Science and Technology through the initiative and guidance of her Regional Director Dr. Zenaida P. Hadji Raof-Laidan brought about an opening for further development of Halal science and scientists in the Philippines.
In line to this, the Philippines will be confident that DOST-12 has satisfactorily answered the consumer’s concerns on Halal laboratory testing of their needed products for consumption. DOST 12 will assist the food manufacturers to obtain Halal certification to satisfy Halal Authenticity requirement of the global market on their respective food products. The Halal certifying bodies by patronizing the DOST 12 Halal Laboratory will also be confident and proud that their certified Halal products can now enter the target consumers in the international world. It is an eyed result that the Philippine will now have a considerable share on the 1 trillion US dollar and rapid growing Halal market.
