NINETY-SEVEN (97)   graduating   elementary  pupils   from  SOCCSKSARGEN Region have  qualified  to  enroll  at  prestigious   Philippine  Science  High School of   the Department of Science and Technology  (DOST-PSHS).

Dr. Zenaida P. HR Laidan,  regional  director  of DOST  12 said these  students   were among those  who took  the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of PSHS National Competitive Examination (NCE) on October 22, 2016 and are  expected to  enroll  as   high school  freshmen (Grade 7 in the K-12  educational  system)  in   June.


Of the  said  number,  31 are  from General Santos City;  23 from  South Cotabato; 14 from North Cotabato, 7 from Cotabato City,  6 from Koronadal City; 5 from Tacurong City,  4 each from Sultan Kudarat and  Sarangani; and 3 from Kidapawan City.

Ninety (90) qualifiers preferred to enroll at the PSHS SOCCSKSARGEN Region Campus (PSHS-SRC) while  others are invited and chose to enroll at the following PSHS campuses nationwide:  six (6)  are PSHS-main campus qualifiers and are invited to enroll at PSHS-Main campus in Diliman, Quezon City; one (1) chose to enroll at the Central Visayas campus (CVisC) in Argao, Cebu; and eight (8) are invited to enroll at the Southern Mindanao Campus in Mintal, Davao City.

Dr. Laidan  said the untiring support from partners  and stakeholders is instrumental in the achievement of a remarkable continuous increase in the number of passers seen every year.

The PSHS scholars get a monthly stipend in addition to free tuition and free loan of textbooks.  Uniform, transportation, and living allowances are also given according to financial need.  Scholars are expected to meet the highest standard of scholastic achievement and behavior.

The qualifiers have to IMMEDIATELY contact the Registrar or the Campus Director of the PSHS Campus where they are qualified to enroll, or visit the following websites: or, for more information on early enrolment.  Deadline for slot confirmation / reservation of principal qualifiers is on February 17, 2017 for Main Campus qualifiers, and on February 24, 2017 for regional campus qualifiers.  Specific schedule of other enrolment activities shall be announced by the respective campuses.

PSHS, which operates as an attached agency of the DOST, is a specialized public high school system that focuses on high quality science-based education and training, that continuously  contribute to nation-building by creating a critical mass of scientists and engineers.

The PSHS-SOCCSKSARGEN Region Campus (SRC) in Region 12 has started to operate in 2013.   The campus features modern academic buildings, complete research and laboratory facilities as well as dormitories or housing facilities, alternative learning centers within the campus that cater to the needs of other “gifted students” in the area.

PSHS-SRC  is  the country’s 12th and the third in Mindanao.  The other  PSHS  campus  in  Mindanao are  located in  Baloi, Lanao del Norte  and  along  Bukidnon-Davao Road in Davao City.
