Halal Industry as an emerging sector in our country is unsurprisingly beset with various challenges and problems impeding its growth and development. For local SMEs to cope with and create a niche in the global Halal market, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) launched the “Philippine Science and Technology Program for the Development of the Halal Industry” during the 1^st National Halal Forum held on February 28-29, 2008 in General Santos City that convened Halal stakeholders from the government, industry/ private sector and academe.

National Halal Forum is the Premier Event in the Philippine Halal Calendar with global trend and scope. Concurrent with the National Halal Forum is the exhibition of Halal products, food and non-food.

This year, another Halal Forum and Halal Exhibition will be carried out as a follow-through undertaking. The 2^nd National Halal Forum with the theme, “Enhancing Halal S&T for Economic Growth and Social Equity” on November 23-24, 2009 at Makati Shangri-La Hotel, Manila.

Objectives

The Forum aims to increase the level of awareness of Halal stakeholders from the government, industry/ private sector on the contemporary global Halal industry; identify and disclose challenges and problems within the Halal supply and value chain; and, explore and generate trends and opportunities in the Halal Industry primarily thru Halal S&T for economic growth and social equity.

The event will be webcasted live and Resource Speakers will comprise renowned international and national Halal figures/ experts.
